Hello Students! Today we are going to be doing two different activities. First, we are going to watch a short Bill Nye The Science Guy DVD that's all about Genetics (It's a fun one). We will do this as a group in class.
Next, you are going to have time to finish your DNA model and showcase it to other students.
At the end of the day today, we are going to introduce an activity that we will be doing throughout the rest of this unit. You will have other work to accomplish, but because this work requires you to do a little bit of "digging," you will have to start collecting data early.
Here is your assignment for our "big" project in this unit - Final Heredity Project:
You must choose one family member (NOT yourself) and document as many different physical traits as you can. We have a list of these traits in the table below. You will find in the coming days that these traits have everything to do with your parents, your grandparents, your great grandparents, and so on.
Your goal is to start researching where they received these traits. Again, this will make more sense as you learn about heredity and the passing along of information, but it is important to choose a family member now and start documenting these things about them.
Your teachers will further explain this project as you continue to learn about heredity in the coming days.
